Becoming a Queen

Each year an Iowa Hereford Queen is crowned at the Iowa Preview Show. This normally happens in June, and changes location from year to year.

Around February the queen chairman (Alecia Knapp) puts in the newsletter that if you are interested, you can contact her. She will then mail the applications to interested persons.
You must be at least 16 years of age and also be a Junior Member.

If you are crowned Iowa Queen you then have the opportunity to run for National Queen, for which you can run two years. For more information on the national queen visit: Boots, Tiaras, and Herefords, the National Queen Blog

Duties of the Iowa Queen Include:

Handing out ribbons at the Junior Preview Show

It is preferred that you attend the Junior National show where you are responsible for Stall cards and booth design, and also partake in Queen Activities

Attend the Iowa Hereford Show, during the IA state fair

Optional: Run for National Queen at the American Royal in October

Attend the Iowa Beef Expo in February, be present at the Parade, Sale and the Junior (Iowa Junior Beef Breeds) Show

Take lots of pictures with winners, exhibitors and your experience and have fun!!
